It’s that time of year again when we send our update on E-man to our birth mom. We wrote a letter outlining his progress, accomplishments; details of what his day is like, what he eats, drinks, what he likes to do – and we send current photographs. Some ask if it’s hard to write the update. We can easily answer that question. Our answer is No. We have a semi-open adoption – which means we provide written updates and photographs…we send all correspondence through our agency. We do not see or talk to each other –{if E-man chooses to meet her when he gets older (by older I mean teenage years) we will arrange it and take him.} I always get weepy when I write the letter – my heart is just full of love and thanks to this young woman who is forever a part of our lives, who gave us the most amazing, amazing gift and chose us to parent her son. We pray for her daily, she is always in our hearts and we remember her with great love. And today, we want to wish her a happy Mother’s Day.
We had an awesome night last night of family, fellowship, fun and food! We have an adoption family potluck and fellowship gathering each month. (We started it last month with our kick off – so this was our second meeting). We hosted last night, and had 4 families come together – it was so much fun to connect with others who have and are traveling the road and living the journey of adoption. The laughter throughout the house, kids of all ages playing together – parents were sharing their stories with one another. Bedtimes were soon expiring as we said our good nights and made plans for next month’s gathering – all of us can hardly wait to get together again. We were blessed beyond words to have our house full of so much love for the Lord and for all our kids – biological, adopted and the ones waited for as journeys beginning to welcome new ones into our families.
I woke to some awesome cards and gifts from my son and husband this morning. One of the gifts I asked for was to watch together the DVD, Empowering, Connecting and Correcting Principles. We spent two nights watching the DVD together, and Dr. Purvis has become a favorite of Will’s. He is using her techniques, and he said he now has a much better understanding of how our parenting has to be different and what that looks like. He’s even used a few of the techniques on me! Like, I was telling him something, and he said, “Whoa, are you asking or telling? Wanna try that again, cowboy?” We laughed – he said, “see – it even works on adults!”
This is the best mother’s day so far! I have received everything I wanted – well – almost everything :) I didn’t want anything I have all I need right here. But the thoughtfulness of my boys… I am so blessed. Little hands made this at Home Depot (we will paint it this week as part of our craft time!)
I LOVE photographs – never can have enough of them!
I got an email from 147Million Orphans and it made me cry, here is what the email says:
Dear Friends,
I just wanted you to know that we are grateful for you...those precious moms who selflessly give of themselves...all day, every day, in every way. We are praying for you as you serve the children who are in your home and wait for those children who aren't home yet."Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her; Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." Proverbs 31:28-29
Have a blessed Mother's Day!
