Fortunes

I love Chinese food.  I love Cantonese food. I love Thai food. Do you see a pattern here? :)  I just love the fusion of flavors and the crunch of the vegetables and vegetable combinations I would not eat solo. I mean, does anyone really eat Bok Choy plain? Will doesn't share the same love that I do.  That's OK. But he does like Chinese American... none other than...

When Will cooks, it usually means we order take out from PF Chang's.  He cooked over the weekend and we had a lovely meal at home. I love it too that you can order online and set the time you will pick it up.  We have a PF Chang's not even 5 minutes from where we live, so it's nice.  Now you can order chop sticks, extra sauces and fortune cookies with your order.  I added on fortune cookies - E-man likes to eat them.

We finished our dinner and E wanted to eat the cookies.  We joked about the fortunes that are inside. I mean really, who thinks up the things that are written on the fortunes?  Are there different 'grades' of fortunes and are on a sliding price scale?  So we joke and laugh and wonder what will be written on the little slip of paper neatly packaged inside that crisp little cookie.

As we laugh, I break one open, a few crumbs falling. I think to myself, this must be a better quality cookie, it didn't break into a thousand pieces when I opened it.  Not thinking too much, and preparing myself for an outrageous fortune that I never take any stalk in, I read this one.  Then I re-read it.
E-man gobbled up the cookie begging for the next one. After reading that fortune, I didn't hesitate to open the  next one. I read it and before E-man could ask me for the third cookie, I had it already broken open and I was reading the third fortune.  I really couldn't believe what I was reading. I laid them all out.  Read each one over again.  Then I said to Will, "you aren't going to believe this."  And I went to the table, sat down, and started to read them.

The first read: You will get what your heart desires.
The second read: Big journeys begin with a single step.
The third read: An unexpected event will bring you riches.

I found it peculiar that those were the fortunes in our cookies.  After all that joking around about how crazy the fortunes are - we stopped a second and said, "can God speak through a fortune cookie?" Will said, "if He's trying to really get your attention he can. He can do anything. He spoke through a burning bush. He's God."

I guess we got the high quality cookies and fortunes. That, or God really had a message for us he didn't want us to miss. There it was in black and white...big words... on a tiny piece of paper, neatly tucked inside a cookie.

(Those little fortunes usually end up in the trash. These, are taped to our refrigerator door as a reminder).
