Be Still...

It was a rough night,  I laid awake praying - praying for the orphaned children in Ethiopia. For the families who are in the process of adopting, for the Ethiopian government, for the US government, for agencies. Whenever I was awake, I prayed.

We got up and went to church this morning - the early service.  It was good. It was really good. It was almost as if it was scripted just for us...it spoke to us and to where we are. Right now. In the midst of all that we read and learned last night, today's sermon and service was perfect timing.  Thank you, God.

The whole theme was God is a big God.  Crazy how that's the title of last night's post!  Some of the scripture just fit like a glove:

The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God and I will exalt him.  The Lord is a warrior; the Lord is his name. Exodus 15:2-3

Who among the gods is like you, O Lord? Who is like you - majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders? You stretched out your right hand and the earth swallowed them. In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling. Exodus 15: 11-13

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.  Psalm 40:1

And if that alone wasn't enough - the worship music. Oh my!! Everlasting God; It is Well; You are my King; and Still.  The chorus from the song Still brought tears to my eyes.

When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with You above the storm
Father You are King over the flood
I will be still and know You are God

Find Rest my soul
In Christ alone
Know His power
In quietness and trust

Only God could have done all this. He is sovereign and sits on the throne and it was as if he reached down, pulling back the dark cloud that we feel is over us and gave grace and reassurance through church today and the couple of friends we talked to. What will happen next? We don't know. What we do know is we are to rest in Christ alone - know his power and trust him.
