Trip to DC Recap

I see that the days are slipping away....and I have yet to write about our trip to DC. So, when momma bear can't sleep...she blogs.

We left for DC on Monday, October 17.  We arrived at the airport 2 hours before our flight. Thanks Will. It's a small airport...we didn't need to be there that early for an already early a.m. flight. With a 3 year old. Boy. Who did good for the first hour then things went down hill. But we made it onto the plane. I had a DVD player all ready for the flight loaded with movies, snacks, juices...we can do this.  And we did.  The little was so good on the plane - no kicking the seats, no crying, no screaming...he did great.  That was a 40 minute flight. We had a layover. Ugh. Imagine a child, running around, crawling under ever seat in the gate area, yelling, not talking, yelling LOOK MOMMY!! Then climbing on everything in sight, walking up to strangers and saying, hello! FINALLY it was time for our flight.  We got on, sat at the very back of the plane, watched movies and he did great. Whew! Airports are not a fun place for kiddos with sensory processing issues. The loud noise, the massive amounts of people, the smells...it all is over stimulating and regulating becomes a challenge.  But we made it.  I was glad we were there.

We got to the hotel and checked in, and I told the little he could go into our room and do as much crash and bump as he wanted! I encouraged him to jump on the bed. Of course he had fun...thought it was pretty cool to be able to do crash and bump in a new place....and then, it caught his eye.... he saw an airplane out the window. Then another...we had a nice view of the planes coming in - this provided great entertainment!! So we settled in, then got in the car and drove to some friend's house to have dinner and catch up. What a great time we had with Hector and Kasha...they have two children, a little boy who is 2 months younger than E, and a 4 week old baby girl.  What a great way to kick off our week in DC.

The week was spent with Will working, and E and I getting in the car, putting on big girl panties and driving through DC traffic to get to the interstate to go check out more neighborhoods and communities.  Yes...we are entertaining the idea of moving.  It's all still in the early stages, but to keep our family together, we have to do something. Will's work is mainly in DC/Baltimore and he needs to be there more.  We did a feel for areas that we like...some we can't afford...but all in all, we have some ideas.  I must confess....I love it there.  I don't know why, but I really do love it there. Yeah, the traffic is awful, but there is so much culture...I didn't realize how much I missed that.

I tried to grab as many photos as I could of our time... and E-man was the biggest trooper. He hung in there, riding in the car, helping me drive, by looking back as we got on and off the interstates...he even told me a couple of times, I will help you mommy...you are doing good mommy...watch out mommy!! It was great.  Our trade off, I found as many playgrounds as I could and we shopped Trader Joe's for treats.  We make a super team...and yes, he is my mini-me. He is so much like me it's not even funny.

For some pictures....

We went down by the harbor and walked along the boardwalk...

Really the only  DC memorial we saw and this is the backside of the Lincoln memorial

My handsome lunch date. His first trip to Chipotle. LOVED IT (gluten/dairy free too!)

He looks like such a little man!!!

Chillin' in the hotel...bought him new headphones for his DVD player. We actually got some good conversation in during this movie. I would have paid $50 for those headphones!

Our trip to the Ethiopian Embassy to get our visas. Oh wow. This was a hoot. I will have to pick up there later...the boys are waking up now.
