Playtime

I love this toy.  We played with it at OT this morning.  This is a good thing for the little guy to play with. It involves deep pressure play which he needs and this is really good for that. It also requires creativity and imagination.  We always get a "treat" after OT, and I asked what treat he'd like and said, "beads like Miss Shannon". I agreed - this is a good treat.  We came home and played, and played, and played for close to 2 hours with these beads.  Yes, 2 hours. 2 hours of a little guy sitting still. Sitting and intently playing, creating, having a great time and getting the stimulation that he needs. He cried when we had to put them away and have lunch and take a nap...but I promised we could play with them again.

So what did the OT say?  We don't have to go back unless we want to recheck anything. That was good news.  (I think the OT read The Connected Child...just by things she said).  I told her I am thankful we at least have a baseline now, and she agreed. The really good news - there aren't any major red flags. She said he is an extremely intelligent child, he's on track for his age, he can cut with scissors which blows her away, his motor skills both gross and fine are right on target. We just need some extra sensory input... We have tools to help and I am thankful.  The trip to see the OT was worth every bit of the time and money.  My advice to any adoptive parent that is seeing behaviors that they can't quite figure out, seek out an OT and get an evaluation.  You will be happy you did.

A new photo coming your way...I could not resist this one.

When I asked him what he was doing he told me this..."Swinging together." I asked him, "together?" "I am hanging on and waiting to swing with my sister. This is her swing."

Oh yeah, that brought tears again.  Gettin' really good at those these days.  By the way...I don't know what we will do if we have a boy...E-man is always talking about a sister...  :)

Dear Lord, we're ready.
