Test Run & Food Therapy

Today I got a test run at caring for two littles.  Solo.  It was fun!  It was good practice for what is to come...and it gave me some great insight into what life will more than likely be like hopefully soon.

I got to babysit today a precious, all smiles and giggles little bundle of love...a 10 month old baby boy and son of my dear, dear friend Jackie.  Things happen for a reason - and I am so glad that they did and today was exactly what it was.  I was supposed to get my hair done today...didn't happen.  Jackie had a fundraiser to go to and her sitter got sick.  So last minute yesterday we threw it all together and I was able to watch her little man so she could attend the fundraiser.

I was really, really glad I got this test run of two kiddos.  I got to see how E-man handled having a baby, another child occupy his momma's time.  He was a big help - and he also wasn't too crazy about sharing his momma.  I talked him through a lot of things, had him help as much as possible, and included him in everything and told him how he did the same things when he was a baby. He laughed at some of the things...he thought that was funny.  When it came time to eat, he wanted to help feed - well, no. He thought it would be really cool to sit RIGHT NEXT TO the high chair and eat his lunch right along with the baby.  When there was food on the baby's face, he was quick to point it out and ask if he could wipe his face. That didn't happen either but I was thanking E and praising him all the time, letting him know how important his role is today and how he is such a big help.

I got a chance to see that we are in for a HUGE adjustment - and I also got to see where I need to make sure I encourage and reaffirm E and his role as big brother.  I know that E will adjust perfectly...that's his nature. He is a lover through and through.

So thank you, Jackie for allowing us to test run with Q today!  But my biggest thanks goes out to our Lord....for orchestrating today so that we could stand at the looking glass and see a glimpse of what is in store for us.  Also for once again reaffirming that birth order is important in our family and for E-man.

We missed E's nap time today - so we had a little mommy, E time in the kitchen this afternoon after the baby went home.  E had asked me earlier in the week if we could make cupcakes! Can you say cupcakes without smiling? I know I can't. I LOVE to bake and I love to bake cupcakes!  So, this afternoon, we took out the mixer, the butter, eggs, buttermilk, sea salt...and we whipped up some Triple Salted Caramel Cupcakes.  I say whipped up very loosely...these little treats take about 3 hours to make!  Labor of love..it's also cheap therapy that brings lots of smiles to this house!

I am not a food stylist or photographer, just a baker, so the photos aren't all pretty...but they let you see these little bits of fun! (Yes, I still have my Portmeirion china...I love the floral design and never tire of it)

Next I am DYING to dig into that fabric and get sewing! I hope to get something cut out tomorrow at the very least!

Have a blessed evening, and eat a cupcake...or just say the word cupcake - I'm sure it will make you smile!
